Top 10 Wireless Telecom Stocks To Own Right Now

Lululemon Athletica (LULU) is set to report earnings on Thursday and analysts are twisting themselves into the most difficult of yoga poses trying to predict the outcome.

Bloomberg News

RBC Capital Market’s Howard Tubin and Courtney Willson think Lululemon is “reaching the inflection point.” They explain why:

While comps will likely be negative in 2Q, we are starting to see new, innovative, and differentiated product again flowing into stores. As the balance within the assortment skews more toward this new and compelling product over the next several quarters, we expect the comp trend to improve and share price appreciation to return…

We believe there is a lot of ‘good’ going on at Lululemon in terms of process changes, assortment changes, and long-term growth drivers. However, the full benefit and impact from these new initiatives may take some time to be fully realized. Beginning this fall, we should start to see a better balance of core versus new/innovative/seasonal product in stores. Next, the Spring 2015 assortments will have the full impact of design elements by Tara Poseley (the new product chief). Beyond that, the complete benefit from recent and pending process changes, should be seen later in 2015 and 2016…

Aero Buys: Set to Soar?

Most of our profits came from stocks with $100 million-plus of daily volume. But that doesn't mean every thinly-traded name is a loser. In fact, here are two intriguing candidates that could "grow up" as more institutions buy in, observes Mike Cintolo, editor of Cabot Market Letter.

Experience has taught us that if you're going to buy thinly-traded stocks, you must be demanding.

First, you want a great story, focusing on companies that have something unique going for them right now, preferably something revolutionary, that's changing the way millions of people work or live.

Second, this story must be backed up by some great numbers—we like to see many quarters of rapid sales growth, and/or a couple of solid quarters and big earnings estimates going forward.

Third, you want a solid chart—not just a general uptrend, but also bullish volume clues, a sign that funds are buying. Also, it helps if the market has recently come under some pressure—if a thinner stock can hold up during choppy times, it's a good indication that current holders are sitting tight.

Below are two airline-related stocks that fill the bill:

Gogo (GOGO) is the company behind Internet access on airline flights. About 7,000 daily flights have the company's technology in North America, and it dominates the industry with about an 80% market share; more opportunities exist for Gogo overseas (though competition is greater, too).

The service is a hit with consumers and airlines, with studies showing that consumers favor flights that are Wi-Fi enabled over others. The firm's third-quarter results were terrific, with revenues of $85.4 million, up 48% from a year ago.

Best US Companies For 2015

Gogo is still losing money, but cash flow is turning positive and the stock leapt out of a nice base this week following the quarterly report.

Spirit AeroSystems (SPR) is a dominant supplier of aerostructures (fuselages, wing systems, etc.) to both Boeing and Airbus—in fact, it makes 70% of the airframe content for the Boeing 737, and is the largest aerostructure provider to Boeing's newer 787.

After a few hiccups, due to execution issues, management has been shaken up (including a new CFO), and the third-quarter report was excellent.

With the aerospace boom in place, there's no reason SPR can't continue to prosper—earnings are expected to rise to $2.66 per share in 2014, the backlog is $38 billion (!) and the stock has been trending higher for a year and just popped above long-time resistance at $26.

Amazon Just Validated NVIDIA GRID

Hold onto your hats, NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA  ) shareholders, because (NASDAQ: AMZN  )  may have just made things a whole lot more interesting for your favorite graphics chip specialist.

But first, some background...
Thanks to a stronger-than-expected third-quarter report last week, NVIDIA stock is currently trading within just pennies of its 52-week-high. To be sure, NVIDIA handily exceeded analysts' earnings expectations in a performance owed largely to a long-awaited uptick in sales from its mobile-centric Tegra 4 line.

However, NVIDIA can also attribute those results to its surprisingly resilient GPU segment, which, even in the face of falling PC sales, has managed to maintain much of its prominence thanks to a combination of sales from Tesla's supercomputing line of GPUs, a loyal stable of hardcore gamers buying its GeForce products, and wins from its cloud-based GRID GPU offerings.

In case you're not familiar, NVIDIA GRID affords graphics-hungry users the ability to leverage NVIDIA's world-class GPU acceleration over their networks -- something anyone who's tried to run any graphics-intensive program can appreciate. recently chose to implement NVIDIA GRID

NVIDIA GRID is a groundbreaking cloud-based graphics solution. Image source: NVIDIA.

Here's where Amazon comes in
On Wednesday afternoon, officially took the wraps off Amazon AppSteam, which it describes as a "low-latency service that lets you stream resource intensive applications and games from the cloud" -- something the company notes is otherwise impossible because of existing "GPU, CPU, memory, or physical storage constraints of local devices."

Sound familiar? It should, because only two days before NVIDIA's earnings conference call, both companies lauded a newly deployed instance of Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud, which is backed by -- you guessed it -- a NVIDIA GRID GPU instance with 1,536 parallel processing cores.

The AppStream service, then, is a logical extension of Amazon's newly acquired graphics computing power. If you're still having trouble visualizing what Amazon AppStream is all about, here's a freshly released video from the Web giant:

Of course, while Amazon AppStream could undoubtedly change the way applications are developed for millions upon millions of connected mobile devices, it also serves as arguably the first massive validation of NVIDIA's cloud-based GRID technology.

After all, given all the attention surrounding delays in the commercial rollout of NVIDIA's Tegra 4 processor this year, recent news concerning GRID has been comparatively sparse.

Sure, back in March, NVIDIA not only boasted that Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware were already offering their own respective GRID-powered software, but it also announced its rack-mounted GRID Visual Computing Appliance to target small and medium-sized businesses. Then, in May, GRID grew a bit larger when the folks at Citrix also incorporated it into XenDesktop 7. Finally, less than two weeks ago, GRID even won a place powering the Playcast cloud-gaming service from France's Bouygeus Telecom, which is now being offered to an impressive 1.5 million subscribers.

However, none of those wins carry the same clout as having the formidable, fast-growing Amazon Web Services in NVIDIA's corner. Remember, based on Amazon's most recent earnings results, sales from its Web Services division are on track to hit the $1 billion mark in the fourth quarter alone, which would bring AWS' total 2013 revenue to an estimated $3.2 billion.

Of course, that doesn't all translate to NVIDIA's bottom line. But even if we ignore NVIDIA's significant opportunities in other markets, merely winning Amazon's approval should go a long way toward convincing the world of the viability of its long-term, cloud-based vision.

The government shutdown likely contributed to October's higher unemployment rate -- but it didn't appear to hurt job creation at all.

The government says 204,000 new jobs were created in October, significantly better than an upwardly-revised 163,000 for September, and August's employment growth was revised upward by 45,000 jobs to 238,000. The Labor Department's survey of business establishments showed the government shutdown we all hoo-hahed over had no visible effect on hiring.

October surprise: Economy adds 204,000 jobs in October

Analysis: What Friday's jobs report means for investors

But the unemployment rate is calculated using a different survey it's a look at households, and the households told a different story. The household survey basically, a poll that is pretty accurate because of a very large sample size estimated that the number of people who reported being on temporary layoff increased by 448,000 last month. That included furloughed government employees who were temporarily unemployed because of the shutdown.

Facebook, Inc. (Facebook), incorporated in July 2004, is engaged in building products to create utility for users, developers, and advertisers. People use Facebook to stay connected with their friends and family, to discover what is going on in the world around them, and to share and express what matters to them to the people they care about. Developers can use the Facebook Platform to build applications and Websites that integrate with Facebook to reach its global network of users and to build personalized and social products. Advertisers can engage with more than 900 million monthly active users (MAUs) on Facebook or subsets of its users based on information they have chosen to share with the Company, such as their age, location, gender, or interests. It offers advertisers a combination of reach, relevance, social context and engagement.

Products for Users

The Company products for users are free of charge and available on the Web, mobile Web, and mobile platforms, such as Android and iOS. It launched Timeline in September 2011, as an enhanced and updated version of the Facebook Profile. Timeline allows users to organize and display the events and activities that matter most to them, enabling them to curate their memories in a searchable personal narrative that is organized chronologically. Users choose what information to share on their Timeline, such as their interests, photos, education, work history, relationship status, and contact information, and users can control with whom each piece of content is shared on their Timeline. The Facebook News Feed is the core feature of a user homepage and is a regularly updating list of stories from friends, Pages, and other entities to which a user is connected on Facebook. It includes posts, photos, event updates, group memberships, app updates, and other activities. Each user News Feed is personalized based on his or her interests and the sharing activity of the user friends.

Facebook is a photo upload! ing service on the Web. Users can upload an unlimited number of high resolution photos, create photo albums, and share them with their friends or any audience they choose. Users can also upload and share videos. Users can set specific privacy settings for each of their photo albums and videos, making them visible to everyone, or only to certain friends. Users can arrange their photos, add captions, and tag people in a photo or video. Tagging allows users to identify a person in a photo or video as one of their friends. Its messaging products include email, chat, and text messaging. Groups are shared Facebook pages for groups of users to discuss common interests. Lists allow users to organize their friends in order to filter the stories shown in their News Feeds and reach or exclude specific people when they share on Facebook. Through Events, users can organize gatherings, manage invitations, and send event notifications and reminders to their friends. From the Events page, users can create a new event, check out upcoming events of interest to them and their friends, and view previous events.

Through Places, users can share their location and see where their friends are. They are able to see if any of their friends are nearby. Users can also check in to Places to tell their friends where they are, tag their friends in the Places they visit, or view Comments their friends have made about the Places they visit. Using Subscribe, users can sign up to receive public posts in their News Feeds from other Facebook users of interest, such as celebrities, thought leaders, and other public figures. Ticker is a live stream of the real-time activities of a user friends and the Pages and other entities to which the user is connected. On the top of each Facebook page, a highlighted icon is displayed to users when there is relevant and new information available to them, such as a new friend request, a new message from a friend, or an alert that the user has been tagged in a photo posted by a friend.

A Facebook Page is a public profile that allows anyone, including artists, public figures, businesses, brands, organizations, and charities to create a presence on Facebook and engage with the Facebook community. A Page owner can connect with interested users in order to provide updates, answer questions, receive feedback, or otherwise stimulate interest in the owner messages, products, and services. When a Facebook user likes a Page, the Page owner has the opportunity to publish stories to the user News Feed on an ongoing basis. In addition, when a Facebook user Likes or Comments on a post by a Page owner, that user action may be shared with the user friends via News Feed to drive awareness to a wider circle of users, increasing the Page exposure, recognition, and engagement. The Company does not charge for Pages, nor does it charge for the resulting organic distribution. As of March 31, 2012, there were more than 42 million Pages with 10 or more Likes, including Harvard, Lady Gaga, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Starbucks, and Boo (the World Cutest Dog), as well as millions of local businesses.

Products for Developers

The Facebook Platform is a set of tools and application programming interfaces (APIs) that developers can use to build social apps on Facebook or to integrate their Websites with Facebook. As of March 31, 2012, more than nine million applications and Websites were integrated with Facebook. Some of the elements of the Facebook Platform include open graph, social plugins, payments, applications on Facebook, desktop applications, mobile applications and platform-integrated Websites. The Open Graph is a set of APIs that developers can use to build applications and Websites that enable users to share their activities with friends on Facebook. Social plugins are social features that developers can easily integrate with their Websites by incorporating a single line of HyperText Markup Language (HTML) code.

Facebook provides an o! nline pay! ments infrastructure that enables developers to receive payments from users through a secure system. The Company has designed its Payments infrastructure to streamline the buying process between its users and developers. Its Payments system enables users to purchase virtual or digital goods from developers and third-party Websites by using debit and credit cards, PayPal, mobile phone payments, gift cards or other methods. Applications on Facebook run within the Facebook Website. The Facebook Platform has also enabled new types of social applications on Facebook beyond games to facilitate social sharing and discovery of music, news, television programming, and everyday interests, such as cooking, fitness, and travel. Developers can also build desktop apps that run on the operating system of a personal computer and offer experiences that are integrated with the Facebook Platform. The Facebook Platform for mobile has enabled developers to create engaging mobile applications that integrate with Facebook social and personalization capabilities. Websites can integrate with Facebook using social plugins, such as the Like button or design more deeply integrated social experiences built around users and their friends.

Products for Advertisers and Marketers

Facebook offers products that enable advertisers and marketers to leverage its combination of reach, relevance, social context, and engagement. When creating a Facebook ad, advertisers can specify a title, content, image, and destination Web page or Facebook Page to which a user is directed if he or she clicks on the ad. Advertisers can further engage their intended audiences by incorporating social context with their marketing messages. Social context includes actions a user friends have taken, such as Liking the advertiser Facebook Page. Ads with social context are shown only to a user friends, and the user privacy settings apply to social ads. It offers a range of ads with social context, from an ad with a sing! le Like b! utton to its Premium Ad paired with social context, which allows advertisers to highlight the interactions of a user friends with a brand or product.

Sponsored stories enable marketers to promote the stories they publish from their Facebook Page to users who have connected with the Page or to amplify the distribution of stories users are already sharing that are relevant to their marketing efforts. When advertisers create an ad campaign with Facebook, they specify the types of users they would like to reach based on information that users chose to share about their age, location, gender, relationship status, educational history, workplace, and interests. Advertisers choose to pay for their ads based on either cost per thousand impressions (CPM) on a fixed or bidded basis or cost per click (CPC) on a bidded basis. Facebook ad analytics enable advertisers to gain insights into which ads were displayed and clicked on. These analytics help advertisers make modifications to their ad campaigns. Advertisers with Facebook Pages can also view the number of users who Liked and Commented on their Page and a newly introduced metric, People Talking About This, which shows how many stories about their brand are being created and shared.

The Company competes with Google, Microsoft, Twitter, Cyworld, Mixi and vKontakte.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Steven Russolillo]

Earlier this week Morgan Stanley(MS), one of Twitter underwriters, downgraded the stock to underperform, citing concerns about the company ability to grow in the crowded online advertising market. The firm analyst, Scott Devitt, said he prefers Google Inc.(GOOG) and Facebook Inc.(FB) over Twitter.

The document officially lists the IPO as a $1 billion deal, but that number is just a placeholder. Most analysts expect Alibaba to raise more than $15 billion through the IPO, and some optimistic views have that number closer to $20 billion. Either way, the Alibaba IPO will be the biggest U.S. IPO since Facebook Inc.'s (Nasdaq: FB) $16 billion deal in 2012.

  • [By Daniel Sparks]

Facebook (NASDAQ: FB  ) shares are down about 37% since the company went public in 2012. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is up about 26% overall. That's quite a hit for Facebook investors. Though CEO Mark Zuckerberg is concerned, he still believes that in time Facebook stock will deliver value to shareholders.

What do Acasti Pharma Inc. (NASDAQ:ACST), Kandi Technologies Group Inc. (NASDAQ:KNDI), and Amarantus Bioscience Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB:AMBS) have in common? Not a lot, if you're simply looking at their business lines. Kandi Technologies Group makes electric cars, and even though Amarantus Bioscience Holdings and Acasti Pharma are both in the pharmaceutical arena, they're not too much alike. There is one common element among AMBS, ACST, and KNDI right now, however... they're three of the market's most bullish setups. Anyone looking for a new trading idea here should start with one of these three.

Indeed, BBVA sells at a similar valuation level but pays a much lower cash yield BBVA is expected to pay a 4% cash dividend yield in 2014. BBVA trades at 2014 150% tangible book value and 18 times earnings. While you can always acquire a solid international banking institution such as HSBC (HSBC), which pays a 4% cash yield and sells for a significantly lower valuation than both Santander and BBVA, it's nearly impossible in today's market to buy an international banking institution that would pay you a 9% cash dividend yield.

Obama threatens to veto bill to delay DOL fiduciary-duty rule

Bloomberg News

The House approved legislation Tuesday evening, 254-166, that would delay – or possibly kill – a Department of Labor regulation that would strengthen advice standards surrounding retirement plans.

The measure, written by Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Mo., would prohibit the DOL from proposing its regulation until 60 days after the Securities and Exchange Commission has finalized a similar rule to raise standards for brokers providing retail investment advice. It attracted the support of 30 Democrats.

On Monday, the Obama administration threatened to veto the legislation, saying that it undermines DOL efforts to protect workers and retirees from conflicted investment advice as they build their nest eggs through 401(k) plans and individual retirement accounts.

Supporters of the bill say the SEC must go first to ensure coordination between the agencies and avoid duplicative costly fiduciary-duty requirements that would ultimately limit investment advice for smaller investors. Opponents say it would effectively kill the DOL rule if the SEC declines to propose its own regulation.

The legislation, which also would require the SEC to prove that investors are being harmed by the differing advice standards between investment advisers and brokers before it proceeds with its own rule, faces an uncertain future in the Democratic-led Senate.

So far, no similar bill has been offered on that side of Capitol Hill. Ms. Wagner is hopeful that an Aug. 2 letter from 10 Democratic senators to DOL urging it to delay the rule signals that there is momentum for the issue on that side of Capitol Hill.

“We are working on some things behind the scenes with the Senate to move this through both chambers of Congress and to the president's desk,” Ms. Wagner said in an interview. “We're just in the middle of the game, and I want to see it all the way through.”

The Financial Planning Coalition – comprised of the Financial Planning Association, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. – is trying to stop Ms. Wagner's bill.

“This legislation is…a 'back door' attempt to undermine investor protection provisions in the Dodd-Frank Act and prevent the SEC and DOL from requiring advisers to put investors' interests ahead of their own,” the FPC said in a statement after the House vote.

Originally proposed in 2010 and withdrawn amid fierce financial industry backlash, the DOL rule is slated to be proposed again sometime in the next few months. It would expand the definition of “fiduciary” under federal retirement law.

Investment advisers currently must act in the best interests of their clients, or meet a fiduciary duty, while brokers meet a! less stringent suitability standard that allows them to sell higher-priced products to clients as long as they meet their investment needs.

During the House floor debate on Tuesday, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., opposed the bill. She said that lawmakers should support the DOL rule because it would protect workers' retirement nest eggs from high fees that could come with some broker product recommendations.

“Whose side are we on?” said Ms. Waters, ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee. “Are we on the side of the brokers, who can say any old thing?”

Opponents of the DOL rule contend it would place a fiduciary duty for the first time on those providing advice to individual retirement account holders. They argue that would raise costs for brokers, potentially forcing them to abandon the market for investors with modest assets.

“All we're trying to do is preserve investment advice and investment opportunities for working Americans,” said Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

Top Supermarket Stocks To Watch For 2014

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Just ask Maureen Gellner, what's better than peanut butter and jelly on Wonder bread, and without so much as a moment of hesitation she will answer, "Nothing."

Gellner's been hooked on the squishy white bread her whole life. Which is why when she noticed it missing from the shelves at her local grocer about a year ago, she was disappointed to say the least.

"I heard it was coming back months ago and I've been looking for it ever since," Gellner said.

At least at a handful of Delaware supermarkets, the search for the Wonder bread diehards is over.

It's back.

"I'm very glad," said Gellner, with a fresh loaf sitting in the top basket of her grocery cart. "I missed it. I always got my kids Wonder bread. I was so happy I had to text my daughter in Florida and tell her, 'Guess what? I'm eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on Wonder bread.'"
