Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Eric Volkman]

Buying a home is a long, complicated, expensive process. So too, apparently, is marrying two big players in the online real estate marketplace. Zillow's (NASDAQ: Z  ) pending buyout of rival Trulia  (NYSE: TRLA  )  -- first announced this past July -- has again been delayed. It's the latest in a lengthening series of halts. Why is this happening, and could it mean that the deal is now at risk?

  • [By Peter Graham]

The Q3 2014 earnings report for mid cap online real estate information stock Zillow Inc (NASDAQ: Z), a peer of small cap Move Inc (NASDAQ: MOVE) which News Corp (NASDAQ: NWSA) is acquiring and small cap Trulia Inc (NYSE: TRLA) which Zillow is also acquiring, is scheduled for after the market's close on Wednesday (November 5th). Aside from the Zillow Inc earnings report, it should be said that Move Inc reported Q2 2014 earnings on July 29th (revenue rose 7% to $61.3M, average monthly unique users of®'s web and mobile si! tes grew 18% to 31.2M and Non-GAAP Loss Per Share was $0.03 per diluted share verses Non-GAAP Earnings Per Share of $0.11) and Trulia Inc reported Q3 2014 earnings on October 29th (total revenue rose 67% to $67.1M along with an adjusted net loss of $2.8 million, or $0.08 per share on a basic and diluted basis, compared with adjusted net income of $9.1 million, or $0.26 and $0.24 per share on a basic and diluted basis, respectively). The acquis ition of Move Inc and Trulia Inc though (assuming the Federal Trade Commission approves the deal) really leaves Zillow Inc as the main publicly traded online real estate information.

  • [By Lisa Levin]

The industry dropped 2.90% by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Trulia (NYSE: TRLA), which declined 4.6%. Trulia's PEG ratio is -5.98.

  • [By Rich Duprey]

Critics of real estate portals Zillow (NASDAQ: Z  ) and Trulia (NYSE: TRLA  )  have long thought both companies represented poor business models, and the $3.5 billion all-stock merger of the two isn't about to change anyone's mind. Although there's been a lot of ink spilled about the benefits to accrue from combining the two real estate info houses, this may end up being less a fortuitous joining of forces and more like the merger of declining retailers Sears, Roebuck and Kmart that resulted in Sears Holding, which is still a sickly business today.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By WWW.DAILYFINANCE.COM] Plenty of stocks go up and down in any given week. The gainers inspire us to keep investing. The decliners keep greed in check while reminding us about the risks of the equity markets. Let's go over some of last week's best and worst performers. Regulus Therapeutics (RGLS) -- Up 161 percent last week Last week's biggest winner was a biotech upstart that got welcome news on a potential hepatitis C treatment. Regulus Therapeutics is showing that patients receiving a single injection of its drug are reporting lower viral loads a month later. There are still plenty of regulatory hurdles to clear, but it's certainly encouraging. Select Comfort (SCSS) -- Up 21 percent last week Shares of Select Comfort moved higher after it announced blowout quarterly results. The company behind the Sleep Number air-chambered mattresses saw net sales and earnings per share climb 23 percent and 22 percent, respectively. Select Comfort's strong performance was fueled by an impressive 16 percent spike in comparable-store sales. The favorable momentum is going to linger: Select Comfort is boosting its! guidance for the entire year. Six Flags (SIX) -- Up 16 percent last week It was a summer of thrills at Six Flags. Shares of the regional amusement park operator rose like a coaster on a chain lift after it announced better-than-expected revenue growth. Revenue increased 7 percent on a combination of a slight uptick in attendance, higher admission prices, and guests spending more once inside the park. The report was encouraging enough for Six Flags to boost its dividend. The stock is now yielding a hearty 5.3 percent. Boulder Brands (BDBD) -- Down 31 percent last week Shares of Boulder Brands lost nearly a third of their value after the food company behind Smart Balance buttery spreads and EVOL frozen entrees warned of a soft holiday quarter. It now foresees net sales of $132 million to $137 million for the fourth quarter. We would be looking at a sequential dip from

After the close, investors will be parsing through earnings from Yahoo (YHOO, Tech30) and Six Flags (SIX).

    2. Stocks to watch: Shares in Apple (AAPL, Tech30) are pushing higher premarket after the iPhone maker reported better than expected revenue and profit. Sales of the new iPhone 6 were particularly strong.

There are also a long line of non-tech consumer companies slated to release results this week like Chipotle (CMG), Coca-Cola, Hasbro (HAS), McDonald's and Six Flags (SIX). An update on the pivotal auto market is also on tap in the form of earnings reports from both Ford (F) and General Motors.

Hot High Dividend Companies To Invest In 2015: Echo Therapeutics Inc (ECTE)

Echo Therapeutics, Inc. (Echo), incorporated on September 10, 2007, is a transdermal medical device company. The Company is developing Prelude SkinPrep System (Prelude) as a technology to allow for painless and skin permeation that enable both analyte extraction and needle-free drug delivery. The Company is developing its Symphony CGM System (Symphony) as a non-invasive, wireless continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system for use in hospital critical care units and for people with diabetes. The Prelude SkinPrep System (Prelude), a component of its Symphony CGM System, allows for skin permeation that enables extraction of analytes such as glucose. Prelude platform skin preparation technology also allows for needle-free, transdermal drug delivery.

Symphony CGM System

The Symphony CGM System incorporates a Prelude skin preparation device, transdermal sensor, wireless transmitter and data display monitor. When the electro-chemical glucose sensor is placed on the prepared site, it uses glucose oxidase to generate a continuous current that is proportional to the concentration of blood glucose in the vessels beneath the epidermis. The signals are then wirelessly transmitted to a remote monitor. The monitor, calibrated periodically with a reference blood glucose measurement, converts the data to a glucose measurement based on the reference value. The monitor displays glucose readings and also contains customizable early-warning alarms for hypo- or hyperglycemia.

Prelude SkinPrep System

The Company is developing Prelude as a transdermal skin preparation device for Symphony to improve the access to the interstitial fluids and the flow of molecules across the protective membrane of the stratum corneum, the outmost protective layer of the skin. Prelude incorporates the Company's skin abrasion control technology into a hand-held device used to prepare a small area of the skin. The non-invasive sensor is applied to this prepared area in order to measure the in! terstitial glucose levels.

Specialty Pharmaceuticals

The Company specialty pharmaceuticals pipeline is based on itsAzone transdermal drug reformulation technology. AzoneTS is a nontoxic, nonirritating skin penetration that is intended to enable topical application of food and drug administration (FDA) -approved drugs, including pharmaceutical products that previously could only be administered systemically. Its advanced drug candidate is Durhalieve, an AzoneTS formulation of triamcinolone acetonide, medium potency corticosteroid approved by the FDA for treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. AzoneTS increases lipid membrane fluidity in the stratum corneum layer of the skin, thereby decreasing resistance to topically applied therapeutics.

The Company competes with Roche, Johnson & Johnson, Bayer, Abbott Laboratories , DexCom, Inc., Medtronic, Inc., Edwards Lifesciences Corporation, Optiscan Biomedical Corp., Medtronic, Glysure, Glumetrics Inc., Maquet and A. Menarini Diagnostics S.r.l.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another under-$10 health care player that's quickly moving within range of triggering a major breakout trade is Echo Therapeutics (ECTE), which is a transdermal medical device company with skin permeation technology. This stock has been destroyed by the bears so far in 2013, with shares off huge by 70%.

If you take a look at the chart for Echo Therapeutics, you'll notice that this stock has been uptrending strong for the last month, with shares moving higher from its low of $2.14 to its intraday high of $3.06 a share. During that uptrend, shares of ECTE have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has pushed shares of ECTE back above its 50-day moving average at $2.65 a share, and it's just starting to push ECTE into breakout territory, since the stock has cleared some key near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.98 to $2.99 a share. That move is quickly pushing shares of ECTE within range of triggering an even bigger breakout trade.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in ECTE if it manages to break out above some major near-term overhead resistance at $3.30 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that registers near or above its three-month average volume of 211,103 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then ECTE will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $4 to $4.50 a share, or possibly even $5 to $6 a share.

Traders can look to buy ECTE off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 50-day at $2.65 a share, or right below more near-term support at $2.50 a share. One can also buy ECTE off strength once it clears $3.30 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Truth be told, Echo Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:ECTE) doesn't look like a particularly impressive stock right now. At $2.92 per share, ECTE is just trading right around where it was a few days ago, not to mention a few weeks ago. And, without any real "news" from the company in months, it's tough to think the market's going to be getting excited about the stock anytime soon. When you take a closer look at Echo Therapeutics though, a few subtle-but-compelling clues start to appear.

Hot High Dividend Companies To Invest In 2015: Rowan Companies Inc.(RDC)

The company offers its contract drilling services through its fleet of 28 self-elevating mobile offshore drilling platforms and 30 deep-well land drilling rigs. The company was founded in 1923 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dimitra DeFotis]

Among energy stocks rising today: Producers of gas and gas liquids were higherm, including Devon (DVN) andConsol Energy (CNX) rose about 2% each, while drillersNabors Industries (NBR) andRowan Companies (RDC) jumped more than 3% apiece. Oilfield services names Halliburton (HAL) and Baker Hughes (BHI) each rose nearly 2%.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

The past six months have been unkind to offshore drillers like Noble (NE), Ensco (ESV), Rowan (RDC) and Transocean (RIG). That doesn’t mean it’s time to buy, however.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

A bad year for offshore drillers is likely to get worse–and Morgan Stanley says even market favorite Rowan (RDC) could get hit. It recommends yield plays, including Seadrill (SDRL).

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

In fact, it’s a good day for offshore drillers all around, as Atwood Oceanics (ATW) has jumped 2.3% to $40.80, Rowan (RDC) has climbed 2.1% to $22.923 and Transocean (RIG) has advanced 0.7% to $28.98 and Noble (NE) is up 1.1% at $19.72.

Hot High Dividend Companies To Invest In 2015: Saes Getters SpA (SG&A)

SAES Getters SpA is an Italy-based company primarily engaged in the production of getters and metal dispensers. The Company structures its business into three main units: Industrial Applications, which includes getters and metal dispensers used in light sources and electron vacuum devices, getters for microelectronic and micromechanical systems, pumps for vacuum systems, getters for solar collectors, products for thermal insulation, and gas purifier systems; Shape Memory Alloys, which includes shape memory alloy semi-finished products, components and devices for medical and industrial applications, and Information Displays, which includes getters and metal dispensers for liquid crystal displays, and barium getters for cathode ray tubes. Additionally, through the Business Development Unit, the Company produces dryers and getters for organic light-emitting diode (OLED), sealants for solar panels and energy storage getter devices. Advisors' Opinion:

For investors, Qualcomm understand the benefits of cloud services. It seems there are numerous questions unresolved. Over the last decade, pharmaceutical companies have been aggregating years of research and development data into medical databases, initiating overhauls of its R&D and selling, general and administrative (SG&A) segments for Pharma. A company willing to build their capabilities, and open to a new view of value will likely achieve better outcomes. Delivering support, personalization, scalability, speed and flexibility are attractive areas for growth.

  • [By Jason Rivera]

To help facilitate this destruction of value has been that Koss has bought back a lot of its shares as the company has been overvalued. The below quote is from its most recent annual report.
In April of 1995, the Board of Directors approved a stock repurchase program authorizing the Company to purchase from time to time up to $2,000,000 of its common stock for its own account. Subsequently, the Board of Directors periodically has approved increases in the stock repurchase program. As of June 30, 2012, the most recently approved increase was for additional purchases of $2,000,000, which occurred in October of 2006, for an aggregate maximum of $45,500,000, of which $43,360,247 had been expended through June 30, 2012 . No purchases were made during the year ended June 30, 2012. The Company intends to effect all stock purchases either on the open market or through privately negotiated transactions and intends to finance all stock purchases through its own cash flow or by borrowing for such purchases. As you can see from this page, most of KOSS' margins have dropped substantially since 2007. Especially of note is its operating margin, ROE and ROIC. Book value per share, cash flow per share, revenue and working capital have all dropped substantially as well. Normally when I have evaluated companies' cost of goods sold rising is what has caused the above metrics to drop, but that has stayed relatively stable over the years at KOSS. The culprit in this case is selling, general and administrative (SG&A) related expenses expressed below as a percentage of its sales. The following numbers were taken from Morningstar:

Top Forestry Companies To Invest In Right Now

It no secret that Lululemon (LULU) has been one stock that everyone–from consumers to that investors–really loves to hate. Or at least that’s what we thought.

Christian Science Monitor/Getty

But yesterday, Citigroup’s Oliver Chen issued a positive note on Lululemon, and today RBC analyst Howard Tubin stepped off the sidelines and upgraded the battered company to Outperform from Sector Perform. Citing the company new leadership, strong brand and the current cheap look of the stock, Tubin sees serious upside. He writes:

We believe lululemon represents a unique and compelling growth story in the apparel retail space. With most of the bad news from 2013 now in the rear view mirror and the shares meaningfully of their highs, we believe the entry point is compelling. Applying a 24-26 times multiple (a premium to the high-growth/niche softlines peer group based on better than average long-term growth prospects) to our 2014 estimate of $2.15 yields our price target of $56.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Harry Domash, Publisher, DividendDetective and Winning Investing]

For instance, AllianceBernstein Income, ticker (ACG), has about 70% of its holdings rated AAA, which is the highest rating you can get. We have some that invest in global real estate.

We have some invested in utility, preferreds, and common. We have some invested in emerging market debt. We try to cover the whole spectrum of investing. When you're looking at monthly payers, you're usually getting bond funds as opposed to stock funds.

Steven Halpern: Now among those closed-end funds is there a name or two that stands out that people should be looking at?

Harry Domash: Well, one that's really good for us has been Reaves Utility Income. It holds primarily US utility and telecom stocks and it's been a pretty good dividend raiser. The ticker is (UTG), paying about a 6.1% yield now and it's a good serial dividend increaser so it's a very good one.

If you're worried about rising interest rates then Invesco Dynamic Credit Opportunities, ticker (VTA), invests in below investment-grade floating rate bank loans. In other words, these are called senior loans.

They're bank loans that adjust their payouts based on prevailing interest rates, so if interest rates go up, these loans will pay higher dividends, so this is a good hedge if you are concerned about rising interest rates.

Another one that's really performed, and it's paying a 6.9% yield right now, Guggenheim Strategic Opportunities, ticker (GOF), that's actually Claymore Guggenheim, holds corporate and government backed, that it's mostly investment-grade and it's paying a 10.1% yield right now, which is pretty high. Those are three that I could recommend right now.

Steven Halpern: Well, we really appreciate you joining us today and sharing your expertise. Thank you.

    Harry Domash: You're welcome.

MarketAxess Holdings (Nasdaq: MKTX  ) is expected to report Q1 earnings on April 24. Here's what Wall Street wants to see:

    The 10-second takeaway
Comparing the upcoming quarter to the prior-year quarter, average analyst estimates predict MarketAxess Holdings's revenues will grow 7.7% and EPS will expand 5.7%.

MarketAxess (NASDAQ: MKTX  ) published its third-quarter results(link opens a PDF) this morning, and as the following table shows, the numbers were disappointing -- by Wall Street's standards. The fixed-income trading platform missed on both revenues and earnings per share. Those misses have short-term investors spooked today, and shares are down around 5.5%. Long-term investors, on the other hand, ought to be a little more sanguine. I don't see any signs that the business franchise is impaired, and, although investors will need to continue monitoring potential competitors and, particularly, structural developments in the bond markets, the latest set of results are well within the bounds of normal business fluctuations.

Cars come to mind, and you could probably get away with owning a common car dealer like Toyota (TMC). The problem with this approach, though, is that auto manufacturers are economically sensitive and can have really bad years. That why I go one level deeper to what I call nfrastructureplays, which in this case means auto parts.

We see several potential sources of continued activity as: (i) Schlumberger (SLB) may look to recapture #1 spot in revenues if Halliburton/Baker Hughes do merge; (ii) Halliburton/Baker Hughes may look to plug their seismic service gap (seismic has been the worst-performing industry sub-segment this year); (iii) Halliburton/Baker Hughes may be forced to divest US assets in order to pass antitrust review. Other potential buyers could include oilfield pure-plays, which may be looking to shift exposure away from offshore rigs and more towards completion/production technologies, or large diversified industrials seeking to capitalize on their strong relative share price performance vs. the energy industry.

Like much of the mutual fund industry, our Oakmark Funds had higher than normal capital gains distributions in 2014. Going into year six of the market advance, there just weren't many losses left to offset the gains realized on stocks we sold. The Oakmark Select Fund, with a distribution of 12% of its value, unfortunately made some lists of tax-unfriendly funds due to its double-digit distribution. Oakmark Select's 2014 performance benefited from three mergers: DirecTV (DTV) being acquired by AT&T (T), Forest Laboratories (FRX) by Actavis (ACT) and TRW Automotive Holdings (TRW) by ZF Friedrichshafen. A year ago those three acquirees accounted for 18% of the Oakmark Select portfolio, a! nd their sales accounted for the majority of our gains. Unless we wanted to hold stock in the acquiring companies, there simply wasn't a good way to avoid recognizing those taxable gains. But given the disconnect between our large distributions this year and our claims to be a tax-se nsitive fund family, an explanation might be helpful.

Spain̢۪s Public Debt Soars to New Highs Smothering Any Optimism

A small ripple of optimism over the gradually improving state of the Spanish economy that filtered through the markets a few weeks ago is now once again shaky on the latest figures from the beleaguered country, which show its public debt burden has soared well beyond governmental forecasts.

The Bank of Spain recently announced that the nation’s public debt had reached 92% of GDP for the end of June, a noticeable increase over the 90% tallied up in March, and numerous parties, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) included, believe that Spain’s public debt-to-GDP is likely to rise even further, most likely topping out well above the 100% mark.

That’s bad news for a country where economic recovery is still but a whisper and where a host of problems, not least severe unemployment, continue to make everyday life extremely tough for scores of people. But nevertheless, Spain’s public debt load is still lower than that of other Southern European countries that continue to suffer the pains of the Eurozone crisis, said Brian May, European economist at Capital Economics in London.

“One hundred percent is not a nice number, but given that Italy’s public debt has been over 100% for a number of years now, and Greece, too, is well above that level, Spain’s numbers aren’t too worrying by comparison,” May said.

Being able to manage that debt burden, though, even if it climbs to a higher level will depend on Spain’s resolve and ability to address the deep-rooted structural issues that continue to hold back economic growth.

Top Gold Stocks For 2016

In all fairness, the country has been tackling some of those deeper economic issues and because of that, there are definitely signs that the Spanish recession is easing, May said.

The European Central Bank’s (ECB) Outright Monetary Transactions (OMT) program has also brought Spanish government bond yields to more manageable levels and the worst of the fiscal squeeze appears to have passed, May said. The labor market downturn has also eased and Spanish exports, he said, are expanding as the country’s business base improves, thereby lending support to both the economy and the banking sector.  And finally, encouraging labor market data suggests also that there have been improvements in that area.

Spanish banks have also succeeded in reducing their ECB borrowings. In August, borrowings totaled around E250 billion, a net decrease from the E400 billion borrowed a year ago.

But even though Spain may be in a better position than its other European periphery counterparts, and economists are more optimistic about Spain than they are about the rest, the country still faces some very serious challenges as the worst of the crisis continues to bore its way through the economy, May said.

The high levels of household debt in Spain are a real concern and combined with household savings rates that are now at extremely low levels as a result of the recession will mean that household spending, which is already low, will fall even further.

Credit is also still very tight in Spain, which means that businesses are going to have to deleverage further and that will make them reluctant to invest, according to May. “Although Spanish banks may have better access now to wholesale markets for their funding needs, and are borrowing there rather than using ECB money, it could be that the gradual improvements we have seen in the indebtedness of the banks are actually due to the banks not using the emergency money that they could have used. So rather than extending credit, they may simply be giving unused money back to the ECB,” he said.

Overall, Spain’s debt dynamics are in a healthier position than Greece’s, and whereas Greece will need help for years and years to come, Spain could potentially work its way out of the mess if interest rates don’t rise and the Spanish economy continues to stage a decent, albeit slow, recovery going forward.

But even though Spain may be able to solve its problems without financial assistance from outside, such a high level of public debt is not a good thing, and May still has a more pessimistic view on the Spanish situation, believing that there’s a real risk of deflation, which will make it harder for both the public and private sectors to reduce their onerous debt burdens.

Although a continued rise in public debt isn’t going to set off another Eurozone panic, or prompt the Spanish government to default on its debt, Spain, the country may well end up having to seek financial assistance from the Eurozone to, May said, “to ensure that its public debt return to a stable footing.”
